The main sources of educational, educational and methodological information are the library fund of the university, the educational and methodological fund of the department, electronic databases of knowledge and data available via the Internet.

The educational process of the department is fully provided with basic educational literature available in the scientific library and at the department. Each discipline of the department is fully equipped with an educational and methodological complex, including in an electronic version: The use of animals in the educational process develops the elements of medical thinking in students, which gives them the opportunity to choose optimal treatment options for animals with various pathologies in medical practice.

Practical classes on internal diseases of animals, special propaedeutics, therapy and prevention of internal diseases of animals, veterinary clinical cardiology and pulmonology, clinical diagnosis of animal diseases are held directly in hospitals and clinics of the department. From the internal diseases of animals, analysis of sick animals is carried out in terms of medical history, diagnosis, treatment procedures. From the clinical diagnosis and internal diseases of animals, students learn clinical and laboratory methods of blood, urine, and scar contents research, practice methods of treating sick animals, conduct curation of sick animals, and draw up case histories and term papers. Curation takes place directly in the clinic or farm with the registration of medical history and course work. Each student examines sick cows with various internal diseases and functional disorders of body systems. An essential point in the education of students at the department is the establishment of the correct diagnosis and the development of therapeutic and preventive measures for the detected pathology and their implementation in practice.

Practical classes in pharmacology and pharmacy are held in a specially equipped workshop and directly in the educational and scientific laboratory “Veterinary Pharmacy”. Experimental works on the study of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medicinal products are carried out in laboratory-practical pharmacology classes. Students learn to prescribe various dosage forms in prescriptions, learn the technology of manufacturing various dosage forms. The department has a qualified teaching staff that provides training for students in all disciplines taught at the department. All teachers have a basic education and regularly undergo vocational training in leading educational institutions.

The staff of the department pays great attention to the clinical training of veterinary medicine doctors. For this, the clinic of the faculty, the clinics of the city of Sumy, and the farms of the Sumy region are used as much as possible. In educational laboratories, students study the pharmacological properties of medicinal products, acquire skills in clinical and laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases, their treatment and prevention.

Employees of the department have issued 158 methodological manuals and instructions, which make it possible to better train specialists and masters of veterinary medicine. Many years of experience in teaching, scientific and practical work allows the teaching staff of the department to support the preparation of diploma and master’s theses at a high level, to prepare educational and methodological literature. In laboratory-practical classes in chemical disciplines, students acquire practical skills in conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances, preparation of solutions, use of instrumental methods of researching environmental objects and agricultural products, in particular, potentiometric methods of analysis, refractometry, photometry, etc. Important attention of teachers in the training of future doctors of veterinary medicine is paid to the combination of basic chemical education with professional disciplines.

Disciplines taught at the department:

Pets anatomy studies the structure of the pet’s body in inseparable connection with its functions and development. Knowledge of this subject forms the basis for the study of physiology, histology, obstetrics, clinical diagnosis, therapy, surgery, veterinary and sanitary examination and other sections of veterinary medicine. The study of anatomy contributes to the development of a broad biological outlook and the formation of a materialist concept of a living organism. Physiology of agricultural animals is a general biological discipline that studies the functions of a healthy animal body with constant changes in the environment. The study of the course pathophysiology of animals provides an opportunity to reveal the patterns of development of the pathological process in the body, the mechanism of occurrence, course, end of the disease and provides a basis for the study of other disciplines. The morphology of farm animals is the basis for such general biological disciplines as zoology, genetics and together with them is the biological basis of industrial animal husbandry, studies the structure of domestic animals and phylo-ontogenetic development of organ systems, studies the morphofunctional basis of organs and systems that study productivity animals.

For the current year the following educational and methodical editions with the stamp of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy were issued:

  1. Physiology of lactation and digestion.
  2. Physiology of lactation.
  3. Monograph “Secretory function of the mammary gland and the activity of offspring in cows.”
  4. Textbook “Animal Physiology”.
