DIRECTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT’S SCIENTIFIC WORK
- Study of the physiology and pathology of pig and cattle reproduction;
- Development of methods for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of obstetric and gynecological pathologies in cows, heifers and sows;
- Development of biotechnological methods and techniques for intensification and correction of reproductive function in pigs and cattle;

A branch of the department is the “Clinic for Small Animals” within the framework of the state enterprise “Zoovetprompostach”.

120 masters were trained.

Production assistance, advisory and practical assistance to farms of various forms of ownership in Sumy and other regions of Ukraine. Conducting regional and district seminars, conducting obstetric and gynecological medical examinations of animals of various species.
Developed and implemented in production: methods for restoring, stimulating and synchronizing reproductive function in female and male farm animals; methods of electropuncture reflexology in veterinary gynecology; schemes for monthly and annual accounting of the main indicators of reproduction of cattle and pigs; use of tissue preparations made from human placenta and membranes to intensify reproductive function in females and males of various animal species.
The volume of measures developed and implemented by the department’s employees in the above-mentioned areas in the farms of Sumy and other regions of Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Belarus since the foundation of the department amounted to about 5 million hryvnias.
Educational and methodological work
– Obstetrics and gynecology;
– Animal reproduction technology;
– Obstetric physiology and pathology;
– Diseases of small animals.
– Laboratory and clinical classes are held in the laboratories of the department and branches of the department in production (farms, farms and private clinics of the city of Sumy);
– Lectures on the courses of obstetrics and gynecology, physiology and pathology of animal reproduction and diseases of small animals at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and artificial insemination technology at the Faculty of Biotechnology are given with the demonstration of videos, slides, tables, preparations and other visual information (the video library has more than 30 videos in the disciplines of the department);
– During laboratory and clinical classes, educational and industrial practice, students master practical skills and methods of diagnosis, therapy and prevention of obstetric, gynecological pathology and breast pathology;
– The educational process at the department is conducted according to the modular rating system for 5 years;
– Every year, 10-12 students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine undergo training in farms in the UK, Germany, Australia, Poland, Austria, and the USA, learning the specifics of the practical activities of veterinary doctors in these countries;
– During its existence, the department’s employees have published more than 40 methodological developments for students of the veterinary and zooengineering faculties on the issues of conducting classroom lessons, educational and industrial practice, writing medical histories, course, diploma and master’s theses;
– The department has a scientific student group that deals with scientific topics related to obstetrics and gynecology;
– Every year, the department retrains veterinary specialists, zoo engineers, and artificial insemination technicians who work in farms in the Sumy region;
– 40-45 Masters of Veterinary Medicine are trained annually;
– Every year, teachers of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering from other universities of Ukraine undergo internships at the department.
